About Us

The Right Course was devised by Fred Sirieix and Simon Sheehan and started as a pilot at HMP/YOI Isis, a category C prison for male offenders. The Right Course brings an industry-led approach to rehabilitation that turns prisoners into hospitality professionals.

For starters

Meaningful work on release from prison helps to prevent re-offending. But it’s historically only available to 5% of those leaving prison. Today, reoffending rates stand at 40%.

For main course

Hospitality demands care for others. The Right Course turns staff canteens into High Street-style restaurants. Working to demanding standards, in an environment reflective of life on the ‘outside’, learners develop not only skills for a career in hospitality but those vital to reintegration. Teamwork. Empathy. Discipline. Respect. Pride in work. This is not theory in a classroom, this is real work, in realistic environments, with real impact.

And for dessert

Our relationships with well-known restaurant groups, hotel chains and other hospitality outlets in need of staff means that our learners have a great chance of securing meaningful work. Since inception, on average over 80% of applicants have completed the course, with 55% of these securing work after release, rising to over 90% if they maintain contact with us once released.
